Gender and sport Blogs

Title IX has effected everyones life if they realize it or not. Male or female it does not matter. As a kid who has played sports my entire life I can find a few ways it has affected me. Title IX has never had a bad affect on my sports career. As a ice hockey player I have played with many different players including women. When I was younger, from the ages 8-12 I always had girls on my team usually just 1 or 2. This is because girls back then did not have enough participants to create at a team so they had to join the boys team. Being so young I never really had opinions on the situation because  all I wanted to do was play. I remember parents and coaches talking about girls playing with us and having mix feelings. Some felt that they should not be aloud to play because of the physicality of the game. Coming into this class I knew that we would be talking about many things where everyone has a different opinion. As a young adult I do feel like it is very important for us to have knowledge on the history of gender in sports. It is important to know how men and women are treated differently in the sports world as we as a society try to make it equal. I feel that it is very important that men and women are given the same opportunity to succeed in the sports world. Over the years there have been many criticisms that women can not compete with men and that they are not as physical and entertaining as men. Growing up as a hockey player, I know that the U.S Women's hockey team has been very successful winning gold medals multiple times. The mens team has not been as successful and is still given more attention and more money.
