Today we will be talking about the Triad of Mens Violence. The three parts to this discussion is violence against women, violence against other men and violence against themselves. The author argues that being a male athlete makes you feel dominant and more in control then non athletes. Male athletes that are the center of attention feel like they need to prove something or live up to a certain expectation. Silent majority is a large group of people who do not express their views publicly and would rather stay quiet about something they know is wrong the have their peers think poorly of them. I believe the Triad of mens violence is still alive but not as much as it was 10-15 years ago. In todays professional sports we still see people committing violent acts against others. for example Ray Rice and Floyd mayweather. Intersectionality is a theory where people can be discriminated against multiple wheres because they are a minority in multiple ways. For example a black women or a gay black male of female. people who face multiple minority threats fall under this category. the three types of intersectionality are structural, political and representational When talking about "the other" that is about women who are also black that are discriminated against for two reasons. it talks about how issues about being black and a women are never talked about as being overlapped. only see them talked about separately. Stereotypes of female athletes of color can affect there sporting experience in many ways, people tend to look down on white female athletes, so a black female athlete is treated even worse especially in white dominant sports. these stereotypes can effect there confidence in themselves and as well as there behavior towards the sport. The female athlete paradox is a problem for a lot of women because the really good athletes want to make them selfs better by working out and gaining muscle. But many people believe that women should not look masculine and should look petite. So women are put in a tough situation where they want to become stronger and better but don't want men and other peers to look down on them and judge them. A Female athlete with a more masculine body then petite is Hilary Knight, a USA hockey player who has broken many barriers in the sport. Hilary is not the small, frail women athlete everyone thinks of when you talk about women athletes. Today I want to talk about the men and women's USA Soccer teams and how the women are paid significantly less even though they are wildly more successful.  The women's team is a top contender for the gold cup and olympics every year those respected tournaments come around. Watching a documentary on tv I discovered that the women average under $50,000 per year when the men make over $300,000 on average.  During these major tournaments the mens and women's game are both mostly sold out, meaning they should see around the same income. The women also easily qualify for the world cup every year where the men sometimes do not, like this coming tournament. It is crazy to me that the men get paid so much more when the women have been winners for so long and the men can barley qualify for most tournaments. Title IX has effected everyones life if they realize it or not. Male or female it does not matter. As a kid who has played sports my entire life I can find a few ways it has affected me. Title IX has never had a bad affect on my sports career. As a ice hockey player I have played with many different players including women. When I was younger, from the ages 8-12 I always had girls on my team usually just 1 or 2. This is because girls back then did not have enough participants to create at a team so they had to join the boys team. Being so young I never really had opinions on the situation because  all I wanted to do was play. I remember parents and coaches talking about girls playing with us and having mix feelings. Some felt that they should not be aloud to play because of the physicality of the game. Coming into this class I knew that we would be talking about many things where everyone has a different opinion. As a young adult I do feel like it is very important for us to have knowledge on the history of gender in sports. It is important to know how men and women are treated differently in the sports world as we as a society try to make it equal. I feel that it is very important that men and women are given the same opportunity to succeed in the sports world. Over the years there have been many criticisms that women can not compete with men and that they are not as physical and entertaining as men.
